What's the news with this release?

Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 further refines the next generation of Pro/ENGINEER data management first introduced with Pro/INTRALINK 8.0 in June 2005. Specifically, Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 includes many additional Pro/ENGINEER data management capabilities, including:

  • The ability to save working copies of files within the engineer’s workspace including the ability to replace components, and optionally update the parent copy. In this way, engineers can copy as many designs as they deem necessary, without having to commit unwanted data to the database.
  • Non file-based attributes for Windchill-based parameters that the user does not want to become part of the CAD data file
  • Improved baseline capabilities such as multi-select and object collection within the commonspace
  • Improved engineer efficiency with the ability to configure the appearance of tables, define multi-column table sorts, check-out any version or multiple parts at the same time and quickly find and limit the number of displayed parts
  • Object import/export to/from the Workspace thus enabling engineers to import data from suppliers, and export potentially unrelated CAD models to a vendor that does not have Windchill access
  • Additional workspace preferences such as the ability to define default options regarding check-out/add to workspace collection behavior
  • New workspace utilities such as Find and Featured Item Display to help users navigate the controls of their workspace
  • Additional administrator privileges including
    • License usage reporting
    • The ability to undo a check-out done by a currently unavailable user
In addition, Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 also includes:
  • Integration with Pro/ENGINEER Routed Systems Designer (RSD) to support the management of wiring schematics
  • New platform support. This release adds support for Microsoft Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7, Oracle 10g and SQL Server 2005
  • An enhanced migration tool. Enabling migration of Pro/INTRALINK 3.x viewables that were stored in a related Division Graphics Server

What role does Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 play in PTC's Data Management Strategy and how does Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 fit into PTC's Product Development System strategy?

PTC's data management strategy encompasses both the engineering workgroup as well as enterprise users to manage upstream ideation information through downstream manufacturing planning and support. With Pro/INTRALINK 8.0, PTC has unified the architectures of both Pro/INTRALINK and Windchill, thus enabling a more seamless transition for engineering workgroups to upgrade to full enterprise capabilities.

Pro/INTRALINK is a full-fledged component of PTC's Product Development System. Because Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 and Windchill 9.0 share the same architecture, Pro/INTRALINK customers that need broader enterprise data and process management can easily upgrade to Windchill PDMLink. In addition, this upgrade will provide a direct path to PTC's Product Development System (PDS).

How does Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 differ from Windchill PDMLink 9.0?

Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 is a Pro/ENGINEER data management solution for the engineering workgroup. Since Windchill PDMLink 9.0 is a superset of Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 capabilities, Windchill PDMLink also manages Pro/ENGINEER workgroup work in process data. But, in addition, Windchill PDMLink includes powerful enterprise data management and engineering process management capabilities. For a detailed comparison of the Pro/INTRALINK 3.X, Pro/INTRALINK 9.0 and Windchill PDMLink 9.0 capabilities please refer to The PTC Data Management Strategy for Pro/INTRALINK Customers white paper.
