Help for Heroes Bike Ride

Ian Cowlishaw and Darren Forrest, the two Directors at Optima have just taken part in the Way of the Roses 170 mile charity bike ride to help raise money for the Help for Heroes charity. Taking in some of this years Tour de France route the pair, along with four others cycled from Morecambe to Bridlington over four days.

The reason that the pair got involved is that a friend who used to be in the army many years ago decided to run the Nottingham half marathon in full kit to raise money for Help for Heroes. Unfortunately the friend never got to fulfil his ambition as he passed away suddenly. However his wife, along with a few others completed this in his memory and this bike ride is a continuation of that.

Ian Cowlishaw said “We all had a great time during the four days, all of us with varying degrees of fitness. I think that we may have been a little slower than the Tour de France riders but I doubt we followed their strict diet in the evenings! If we can raise some money for a great charity like Help for Heroes then that’s an added bonus”
