Going for Net Zero with Green Energy

As a product design consultancy our ethos is to create products that have minimal environmental impact whilst maintaining product integrity. We’re all aware of the impact of client change and how it is affecting our daily lives with the months of rain we’ve recently had.

Here at Optima HQ we’re trying to do our bit too, by practicing what we preach. We undertook an analysis of our annual power consumption and we generated 5 tonnes of carbon and wanted to reduce this. Working with the University of Derby we installed solar panels, low power LED lighting and additional insulation to reduce our consumption and utilise green energy for the power we use.

The panels were installed in December and and despite the weather we have reduced our carbon output by an impressive 3 tonnes.

Ian Cowlishaw, Director at Optima said “We’re serious about our commitment to designing sustainable products and also how we operate as a business. Our long term goal is to be carbon neutral and we’re always looking at ways to achieve this. This installation of solar panels has been a major step in reaching our goal”
